The Native Animal Network is made up of volunteers
(no paid staff). Many give their time to help with the rescue, rehabilitation and release of native animals,
but there are many other ways members can contribute.
Support in other fields such as fundraising, public education, rescues and transportation of animals are as important and rewarding.
Those taking part in our activities work within our guidelines and regulations. See
how to become a member at the bottom of this page.
We depend on memberships, donations and fund raising activities to keep going. You can help
by becoming a member or donating money or items used in the care and keeping of injured fauna.
Being a member of NANA does not mean that you will automatically be given an animal to care for, many factors govern the selection of carers. These include control of domestic pets, suitable
experience, equipment, and housing' (cages, aviary, compound etc).
Carers are asked to attend
education days
relevant to the species they will care for, to gain an overview of the requirements of fauna in care.
Some of the cost of caring for an animal is met by individual members. The equipment and housing of the animal must be of a suitable standard and quality. Animals may need to be passed onto other carers to form a crèche or for pairing up with another of its own species. The welfare of animals must come first.
We encourage all members to attend the monthly meetings, to meet and
share information with others in the association. This is an important
way in which our knowledge of wildlife care increases, helping to
increase the chances of successful rehabilitation.
