Meetings
NANA members and guests, please remember that NANA general meetings are now held at the Nowra Library Meeting Room, Berry Street Nowra on the second Wednesday of each month at 7:00 p.m. We look forward to seeing you there!

Species Coordinators
The reporting requirements have changed for NANA volunteers (except those on the far South Coast).  The new arrangements are simple. When you get an animal into care, you need to report to the appropriate coordinator, to get a number. The coordinators are

  • John Meaney - Head Coordinator. Report all Macropods, Wombats and Possums ...... 4422-7367

  • Gerardine Hawkins - Report all Flying Foxes, Microbats, Reptiles and Amphibians ..... 4423-1635

  • Judy Bailey - Report Birds except Raptors from Falls Creek and North to Kiama ......... 4423-3261

  • Rick Cowan - Report Birds except Raptors, south of Falls Creek ............................... 0411-162034

  • Jenny Packwood - report all raptors (does not include nightjars) ................................. 4441-8102

  • Rhonda Parker - Echidnas and small mammals (not possums or gliders) ...................  4448-3414

  • Any species other than those noted above, please report to Head Coordinator ............. 4422-7367

Training and Education
We take our education and training seriously. As well as 'on-the-job' experience and the 'buddy' system, we offer a number of courses. Unless volunteers have prior experience,  they must attend the appropriate courses before they can rescue or care for native animals.

Our recent Macropod and Wombat Training course and the following Possum course, held at Nowra Hill were presented by Helen George. Both were well attended, and we received lots of positive feedback from members!

Scheduled Courses

Training courses are not run during the busy spring and summer months as our volunteers are all out rescuing and rehabilitating wildlife!  As dates, times and venues are confirmed they will be included in the newsletter and the web site.  Gerardine Hawkins is our education officer, so to book any NANA course, please contact Gerardine on 4423 1635.  If you attend any of these external courses please let us know so that we can keep your details updated.

  • We have a reptile (lizards& snakes) and turtle course scheduled for Wednesday January 27th at Nowra. Our guest presenter will be Carla Jacket. Course cost includes a copy of the Reptile rehabilitation manual. Registration will be at 8:30 for a 9:00 am start. Call Gerry to book (details below).

Some courses may require a deposit up front so we can book the venue. We will also again be sharing out training with other groups, so keep your eyes on this page for information about upcoming training and conferences. Volunteers wishing to find out about upcoming courses should contact Training Officer Gerardine Hawkins on 4423 1635 or 0414 931452.

When talking at schools and community groups , NANA does NOT display animals undergoing rehabilitation.
