Unfortunately we don't have pictures of all our charges, but here are a few of our recent successes.

Echidna Release

In spring, this Echidna was roaming the countryside looking for love in all the wrong places - and ended up in a bus depot at South Nowra!

 Echidna Digs!

We relocated him a few hundred meters away in bushland, where he proceeded to dig himself in until we had left.

Fruit Bat (Flying Fox)

Fruit Bats have a reputation as being cranky, and for scratching and biting people who try to handle them. they certainly will do so if distressed, or injured.  Some bats are known to carry quite serious viruses related to rabies, so you should not handle these animals unless you are properly trained and prepared. (Our bat specialist has completed a series of treatments / injections to build up her immunity to the virus).

When they are healthy and safe, they are usually quite pleasant natured, and surprisingly clean. This fruit bat has a torn wing, but as you see, still has a healthy appetite!

We receive many bats into care, some of which gave been caught in barbed wire or fruit nets.  Only those which fully recover can be released into the wild.
