The possum family includes not only the well known brush-tail, but also the ring-tail, and members of the various glider families such as the feathertail, sugar and greater gliders. This very young brush-tail possum was found in a front yard with no explanation of what happened. At only 185 grams, and suffering from dehydration, it was touch and go for a while, but at last report is doing well. |
This possum is a bit older - but only about six months. Brushtails grow very fast during their first year of life - at times more than doubling their weight in a month. This one was 'dropped' by its mother when chased by a dog. Although saved by the dogs owners, and handed over to NANA, the possum died the next day as a result of dog-bite and shock. |
