Baby Wombat

This wombat was very young when rescued. The mother was hit and killed by a car. Babies such as this one have a good survival rate if rescued early enough. This one will be kept for almost two years before being ready for release. At this age, they need feeding with milk formula - specially made for marsupials.  They require as much care at this age as a young baby human.

Who you calling Fatso?

This Wombat enjoyed all the pleasures of home - for a while. Before they can be released, contact with their carers becomes less frequent, and they are often paired with other animals and 'taught' how to forage for their own food. After release, we try to monitor their progress whenever possible.

Wommies big day out

This young Wombat was taken to a local bush area for a 'photo-shoot' arranged for the benefit of two Nature Journalists (whose credits include photo essays for National Geographic).
